About Colorado GEAR UP

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a national, federally funded pre-collegiate grant program designed to increase the number of students who graduate from high school and are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Education.

Colorado GEAR UP provides services for students beginning in the 9th grade through the 1st year of college. Program services include personalized mentoring, academic advising, college and career readiness workshops, campus visits, and summer enrichment opportunities. Students may also benefit from concurrent enrollment options, tutoring, STEM-focused events, and test preparation resources.

During their senior year, participants receive tailored guidance throughout the college admissions process, including one-on-one financial aid counseling and assistance. Upon high school graduation, eligible students may qualify for a GEAR UP scholarship to help offset the cost of their college education. All services are designed to help students discover meaningful career pathways and identify the best-fit college with affordability as a key priority.

The program also provides transition services for newly enrolled college students, providing comprehensive support to ensure a smooth start and continued success throughout the 1st year.
